Tom Cannon

Boulder, Colorado

Tom Cannon is an internationally recognized artist specializing in bronze and ceramic works. He lived in Japan for thirteen years, immersing himself in Japanese art and culture while apprenticing with respected masters. This experience profoundly shaped his artistic approach, which blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern interpretations.

A University of Colorado/Boulder graduate, Cannon studied under acclaimed ceramic artist Betty Woodman. Born into a family of artists, he connected with clay early, but his artistic path crystallized during his time in Kyoto.

Cannon has exhibited at prestigious venues throughout Japan, combining time-honored techniques with his unique perspective to create vessels that resonate globally. One of his ceramics is in the permanent collection of the Ohara Art Museum in Japan. His work reflects diverse inspirations and appeals to international audiences through its authentic cultural fusion.
