An Artists Perspective

  • Dennis Sohocki

Dennis Sohocki is one of the original artists, participating in Sculpture in the Park since the very beginning. Dennis says, “In my 45 year career, I’ve been in galleries and shows from coast to coast as well as participated in international shows. Now Loveland is the only show I do because it is the best show in the country for sculptors and collectors.

When the show began in 1984, it was like the Lil’ Rascals who said ‘Let’s just put on our own show to support artists and allow our town to buy monuments!’ Undaunted, they created over time the premiere sculpture event in the country and put together one of the best sculpture collections of any town in the United States.

The artists love the show. The collectors and first time buyers love the show. It’s family and kid friendly. The art is diverse in both styles and mediums and takes place in a beautiful outdoor setting!”

  • David Turner

David Turner who has also been in the show for over 20 years says, "I live on the eastern coastal plains. Sculpture in the Park is a great western US venue and offers a lot of exposure. It’s helped me attract a great group of patrons and a couple new collectors each year. I’ve made life-long friends with the artists, show organizers, volunteers and staff. This community of sculptors has become my second home."

  • George Walbye

George Walbye has been participating in the show for 42 years. He says, “Forty-some years ago, 5 Loveland artists were talking, and one of the older guys (I think it was Fritz White) said, ‘We should have an outdoor art show’.  I spoke with Loveland Mayor Ray Reeb, who was a very good friend of mine. He spoke with the city council, and they all thought it was a good idea. We got permission to use the area where the permanent park is now; we were hoping to sell $50,000 of art, which we did.  That marked the beginning of the annual art show.  We have had 42 consecutive shows; however, we missed one year due to COVID. I have been in all 42 shows over the years; I have also been in many other fine shows throughout the United States. However, our show is the very best. I want to thank all of the volunteers and, most of all, the people who have put on the show.  I have been very fortunate to have been one of the show founders and have enjoyed working at every show, as well as giving tours and taking friends through the park. I think Sculpture in the Park Show at Benson Park is the very best outdoor juried art show in the United States.

     I LOVE BENSON PARK.”

  • Diane Mason

According to Diane Mason, who has participated for over 10 years, "The annual Sculpture in the Park Show & Sale is always a major highlight of my year.  It is an opportunity to show new work and see clients’ reactions to the work (something you cannot do when selling through a gallery or website). Best of all, it is a chance to reconnect with so many artist-friends, as well as those who have already collected my work. I absolutely LOVE this show.

Even if I was no longer in the show myself, I would still go and help some of my friends just to be a part of it.  It is so well-managed with a superb staff and enthusiastic volunteers…they  make it easy to set-up and tear-down our booths, and make the entire experience a delight.”
