Gedion Nyanhongo

Fostoria, Ohio

Gedion is from Zimbabwe, Africa. His influence from a very young age was his father, Claud, who was one of the pioneers of the Shona Stone Sculpture Movement (a style unique to Zimbabwe) that began in the late 1950s. His traditional carving techniques, used for generations by the Shona people of Zimbabwe, are applied to indigenous stone mined in Zimbabwe, which he imports to the United States. He hand sculpts each over dozens of hours, only by himself, using traditional tools. Gedion’s sculptures are in many public and private collections and currently displayed at multiple U.S. Sculpture Walks, winning numerous awards. Gedion is a member of the National Sculpture Society.
