Gary Liscum
Greeley, Colorado
As a Colorado native, Gary Liscum grew up along the Front Range, primarily in Boulder. In 1979, he graduated from the University of Northern Colorado (Fine Arts) and in 1983 from the College of Traditional Medicine (Oriental Medicine). As a practicing acupuncturist of almost 40 years, Gary has studied and lived in China. The sculptures’ content integrates spiritual, philosophical, and literary metaphors into visual embodiment by de-emphasizing the body, reducing it to flowing curves, and exaggerating gesturing hands. He creates what are called “Dai Zi Ren” (‘Bag People’). His intention is to visually convey a deeper sense of the great mystery we all share. His work is on display at Madison and Main Gallery in Greeley and in private collections.
