David Stemler

Longmont, Colorado

David Stemler is a self-taught artist creating fine wooden works of art. Inspired in the 1970s by a transformative lecture by James Krenov, he later refined his skills with guidance from master box makers Andrew Crawford and Doug Stowe.

Working with more than 70 species of hardwood, David studies each board until its color, texture, and grain reveals a design, elevating simple function into art.

Originally from Milwaukee, he served in the U.S. Army, earned a college degree, and spent 40 years as an international geologist and geophysicist. He and his wife returned to Colorado in 2004 and now live in Longmont.
