Bill Usher

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Sculptor Bill Usher creates biomorphic forms that balance strength and grace. Working in marble, wood, brass, steel, and resin, he crafts abstract sculptures suggesting organic movement and poised tension. Formally trained with a BFA, Usher spent decades in industrial design, creating architectural wood carvings, custom lighting, and ornamental steel fabrication, gaining deep material knowledge and engineering precision before returning to his studio practice in 2019.

Influenced by modernist abstraction masters like Brancusi, Noguchi, Arp, and Poncet, his work explores organic abstraction and quiet, resilient femininity. Materials harmonize in a delicate equilibrium, echoing themes of body and architecture. Recent highlights include commissions for ICArt/Silversea Cruises and Shreveport Regional Airport.
