J. Chester Armstrong is a world-renowned wood sculptor based in Sisters, Oregon. Born in Berkeley, California, he graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in liberal arts. A professional sculptor for over fifty years, Armstrong works primarily in Western hardwoods, including juniper, maple, pine, and walnut. He is best known for his thundering herds of horses and dramatic birds of prey. His style, described as slightly stylized realism, captures movement through spirals, rhythm, and the natural grain of wood. A Best in Show winner at the Indian Wells Western Art Show, his work appears in galleries and major public installations and is held in prominent private collections nationwide.
