AJ Macdonald brings more than 30 years of experience in investment management and financial planning to the families and individuals he serves. As the owner, founder and CEO of Macdonald Financial Services, AJ oversees all aspects of client planning, management, analysis, research and ongoing account review. His approach is grounded in clear communication, thoughtful guidance and a commitment to doing what is right for every client.

AJ began his career after earning a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of Kansas. He entered the financial services field in 1995 with Mercantile Bank in St. Louis before moving to Denver to join Norwest Bank in the Trust and Investment Management Department. In 2001, he established Macdonald Financial Services in Loveland where he continues to serve clients through LPL Financial.

AJ is deeply rooted in the community and has dedicated many years to local organizations. He served as chairman of the board for Colorado Youth Outdoors and spent 17 years on their board. He was also a board member for McKee Hospital for 12 years. His community involvement includes work with Sertoma, the Healthier Communities Coalition, NoCo 20/30 and the Boys and Girls Club of Larimer County.

Professionally, AJ is recognized among the top one percent of performers based on annual production with LPL Financial, one of the nation’s largest independent broker dealers. He also holds specialized credentials as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst CDFA and a Certified Exit Planning Analyst CEPA.

AJ and his wife Michelle live on Horseshoe Lake in Loveland and enjoy the fun and activity of a full house with their five grown children Morgan, Charlie, James, Heather and Rachel. Home life is lively with an array of dogs, cats, horses, miniature horses, goats, chickens, peacocks, ducks, swans and even bees.

Outside the office, AJ enjoys sports of all kinds and is a longtime Kansas City Chiefs and University of Kansas basketball fan. He is an avid outdoorsman who spends time fishing, big game hunting and pheasant hunting with his dogs Roxy and KC. At home, AJ and Michelle enjoy boating, gardening and caring for their farm and the many animals that make it special.
